As a watch inspired by a real car, we must first talk about the car... and this new Bugatti Tourbillon is precisely that. Bugatti has always been committed to bringing cutting-edge technology and luxury to the road. As Ettore Bugatti himself said, "If it could rival a Bugatti, it would no longer be a Bugatti. Nothing can compare to its beauty." Beneath its familiar exterior lies a brand-new powertrain, a truly remarkable fusion of insane engine and electric power. While the previous two Bugatti models were powered by a quad-turbocharged W16 engine, the new Bugatti Tourbillon is powered by a true gem: an 8.3-liter naturally aspirated V16 engine, newly designed by Cosworth. It revs to 9,000 rpm, producing 1,000 horsepower per cylinder, and a further 1,800 horsepower from its three electric motors. But now, I want to say a few words about the instrument panel. It truly evokes a connection to high-end watchmaking. First, the car's name (Tourbillon) is clearly inspired by horology, a fact Rimac has confirmed in various interviews. The car itself also reflects our own passion in many ways, most notably in this absolutely stunning instrument panel. It's entirely analog, crafted to Swiss watchmaking standards and techniques, with the same attention to detail as a fine watch movement—check out the beveled decoration, the visible gears and pinions, and the jeweled bearings. Parallel Design
Jacob & Co's latest creation aims to reinterpret the allure of Bugatti's super sports cars. Its sleek black PVD titanium case reflects the Bugatti's powerful body and its distinctive features, including the front grille, side radiator scoops, and massive sapphire side windows. Measuring 52mm x 44mm, this watch is definitely not for the faint of heart, but it's slightly smaller than the previous Bugatti Chiron. Through the case's distinct sapphire crystals, a spectacular engine inspired by Bugatti's latest Bolide is visible. Besides the impressive V16 automatic (more on that below), it also drives a display identical to that of its automotive counterpart.
Its three subdials are covered by a single block of sapphire crystal. Starting on the left, there's a 30-second flying tourbillon. The tourbillon's ingenious rotational speed further enhances its "ballet," claiming it to be their fastest tourbillon ever. In the center, the retrograde jumping hour and minute indications replicate the tachometer and speedometer of the latest Bugatti models. Finally, a third subdial coaxially displays the power reserve of the barrels driving the time display and the automaton, respectively. The time mechanism's power reserve is indicated by a large red hand, with two barrels providing 48 hours of power. Bugatti V16 Engine on Your Wrist
The Bugatti Tourbillon Super Cool Engine Automaton features a bold and expressive new miniature V16 (not W16!) engine block. Crafted from a single block of sapphire, the block houses 16 cylinders bored to accommodate as many titanium pistons as possible. These pistons are driven by a single crankshaft. Like a Bugatti engine, this engine block automaton features a separate exhaust manifold. The animation is activated by pressing a button integrated into the crown. The engine starts: the crankshaft rotates, and the pistons move up and down.
The automaton's sequence lasts 20 seconds. All four barrels can be wound using the same crown, one direction for the chronograph and the other for the automaton. Finally, a flap on the caseback allows the time to be set. The Jacob & Co JCAM55 manual-winding watch comprises a whopping 557 parts! It oscillates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour, and the chronograph section of the movement boasts a power reserve of 48 hours. This allows for further animations—and, more importantly, a digital configurator available at every point of sale allows customers to personalize their Bugatti Tourbillon watch. Customization options include the case, dial, instrument panel, hands, strap, and even some movement components.
